Save The Date Etiquette - I am checking my mail Jessica, Aretha, Brittney, Camila and Savannah

Camila AlvesJessica BielAretha Franklin, Wyonna Judd and of course the beautiful Savannah Brinson are all recently engaged. Congratulations to them all!!! Oh, I have to mention Chris O'Dowd and Dawn Porter (he just does it for me, no disrespect Dawn). I am sure they are excited and anxious about the guest list and one way to ensure that people who matter the most are definitely available to attend is to send a Save The Date.

Saving the date is a comparatively new custom and the rules are evolving with new trends and changes in culture.  It has become necessary to provide guests with enough notice to comfortably fit your wedding day into their schedule. Today we are faced with the challenge of planning vacations, family events, business trips, church outings, etc. up to over 6 months in advance.  The Save The Date is an absolute must if it is a destination wedding or a wedding that may span several days based on the customs of the bride or groom.

Save The Date tips:

  • Mail at least 6 months in advance (wedding invitations are mailed approximately 6 weeks in advance)
  • Simply state the date AND location
  • Clearly indicate that a formal invitation will follow
  • This is a chance to show some personality versus formal invitations that should be more classic and tasteful. Your Save The Date can be cute, quirky and even comical. As always veer away from the rude, crude and vulgar.
  • Some say to avoid confetti and other 'messy' enclosures. I disagree. Simply state on the envelope that there is confetti inside. The effect will look beautiful while your warning will prevent your guests from cursing your name while vacuuming.
  • The Save The Date magnet is popular and looks cool on the refrigerator, but give your guests a heads up that a magnet is enclosed so they avoid placing the envelope on computers or compromise any other electronic gadgets.
I love Wedding Paper Divas for the variety of cards but  Storkie Express is a go-to for classic cards. For those of you with a massive funny bone, you can choose from the collection on Magnet Street.

I am looking for my Save The Date in the mail ;-)
