Priceless, Timeless Little Black Dress

Every self respecting woman has at least one little black dress.  Your wardrobe is incomplete without one. A little black dress is more than just evidence that you have a subscription to Elle or Essence magazines.  Plus, little black dresses are no longer for just Italian widows.

Your little black dress is your almost every occasion go-to dress. It is your plastic surgeon and immediate fitness plan.  Do NOT underestimate the power of the LBD. The right fit and fabric camouflages rolls, folds, cellulite, bloating, lumps and bumps and takes 5 to 10 pounds off if you are wearing just the right fit.  Your perfect little black dress makes a statement that you are polished, professional, sexy and stylish.

The most important things to consider is finding the right fit for your size and body type.  You don't have to be 'little' to wear an LBD.  They do come in all sizes, but be honest with yourself and find a dress that will gently hug curves versus cut off circulation.

Popular styles/cuts to consider are surplice, shifts and sheaths. I won't bother with not to wear. My favorite cut is the Sheath.  It is simple but provides the option of belting and seams that allow you to highlight your assets, such as nice bosom, small waist, Michelle Obama arms, etc.  I once had an hour glass figure, but now due to a combination of not adjusting my diet for change in metabolism due to age, and not enough exercise, I am now a Pear shape. Which is hilarious, because just mentioning pears make me want to snack. Therefore for my new pear-shaped body, I love an empire waist dress. The aim is to bring the eyes to the upper half of my body and hopefully reduce the attention given to my lower half.

LBD for every body type

Thandie Newton wears a dress that is great for a buffet :-)

Serena Williams proves that girls with a body can rock a glamorous LBD

Selita Ebanks has the legs and cleavage to work this dress. Do you?
The First Lady - She is showing the Michelle Obama arms (get it? ) However, this dress should have been an inch or two shorter to be perfect.

Mel B - Curves, curves, curves in all the right places

Iman - The body and confidence to look great in an otherwise over the top dress. Ruffles, wrap and sequin is alot for a mere mortal to pull off.

Garcelle Beauvais - Simply elegant in a dress that is appropriate for every occasion

Gabrielle Union wears a fun LBD

Estelle gets an 'A' for effort

Beyonce looks like she is going to a cocktail party on the Starship enterprise.

Beyonce - I want to cut this dress in two. The top is a WIN and the bottom is a FAIL.

Alicia Keys - this is a great way to rock the LBD if you forgot to shave or have varicose veins

  1. great advice! we all need a reminder to have a LBD regardless of our size and shape (yes, round is a shape), just ensure that it flatters your figure.
